Treatment longevity

Stef’s best practice steps to a long lasting pmu tattoo

Treatments normally last up to 3 years, and in order to keep them looking beautiful and crisp, annual colour boost touch up’s are always recommended, along with a healthy lifestyle, sunscreen, great hydration, and a good skincare routine.

  • Skincare products! Chemical exfoliant products can significantly impact the appearance and longevity of your tattoo. Check your skincare products for the following ingredients to avoid needing a premature colour boost:

Benzoyl Peroxide, Hydrogen Peroxide, Glycolic acid, Apple cider vinegar, Vitamin E and C, and Retinol.

These ingredients are not harmful to your skin, and some people are required to use them for medical purposes, however they have been known to contribute to fading your tattoo faster than we’d like.

Try products with ingredients like Bakuchiol instead of retinol, Niacinamide instead of vitamin E and C, and good moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, and most importantly: ceramides, which protect the skin’s natural barrier, prevent moisture loss, and protect from free radicals that destroy elastin and collagen.

  • W E A R  Y O U R  S P F!

Sunscreen is an important part of daily protection, even in the winter (And yes even if you have darker skin pigment)!

Just like with any tattoo, UV rays will fade your tattoo faster. (Can we also mention hyper pigmented sun spots and earlier signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles?) We have a fantastic SPF option available for sale that is so lightweight, unscented, vegan, and has amazing skincare ingredients that is available for sale.

  •  Salt water and chlorine can deteriorate the pigment faster, Please continue to enjoy your life, and swim or go to the beach, we just recommend that you make sure to rinse off with regular clean water after you’re finished.

  • If you receive facials, laser treatments, or Botox/fillers, be sure to advise your technician that you have permanent makeup tattoo

Some additional things that can decrease the lifespan of your Permanent Makeup Tattoo:

-Oily skin type

-Iron deficiency

-Very strong immune system

-Lack of hydration

-Lifestyle choices (frequent drug or alcohol use, smoking, etc.)
